The brain and body are synergistic. It guides everything we do and is why we believe in this research.
The Exercise for Brain Health (E4BH) Laboratory is focused on understanding how exercise and physical activity, from single sessions of exercise to long-term exercise training, affect human brain function and mental health.
"A single, moderate workout may immediately change how our brains function and how well we recognize common names and similar information, according to a promising new study of exercise, memory and aging."
Project# 1
Exercise for Brain Health with Increased Genetic Risk for Alzheimer’s Disease _____Examine the effects of 6-months aerobic exercise training on:
- ✓ Brain structure, brain function and cognition
- ✓ Conduit artery function & its correlation with cognitive function
- ✓ Circulating angiogenic cells
Project # 2
Acute Exercise and Brain Function _____To assess the effects of moderate intensity exercise on structural/functional changes in the brain measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and neuropsychological assessments.

Project # 3
Acute Exercise and Long-Term Memory _____To determine the time-dependent effects of acute exercise on long-term memory in healthy young adults.

"It was a pleasure working with the E4BH team at UMD in the study. Everyone was so professional and kind. My main takeaway is that now for the rest of my life M-F 10-11 will be set aside as my exercise time. If I could keep it up for 6 months, why not forever?"
